Question 5
5. My company, which does colour printing, has received an order from a customer unknown to us, to print and supply a large quantity of currency notes in various denominations for an African country. The price is attractive but this is not our normal line of business and we cannot be sure the transaction would be legal. Can you advise me?
The Order is almost certainly fraudulent and the subject is covered in the general section of the Guide, p. 17, of the current issue. You should not acknowledge the order in writing because any document from you may be used in composing future attempts at fraud. The order, with whatever relevant papers you can produce, should be reported to your bank (if a letter of credit is involved), the pre-shipment inspection company dealing with the country concerned, the Metropolitan Police Fraud Department in London and the ICC's Commercial Crime Bureau.
