Export/Import Training Courses
As part of our continuing dedication to providing the best services possible to our subscribers and customers we now offer a very comprehensive International Trade Training Service.
International Trade rules and procedures are complex and one single mistake can cost thousands of pounds which could be avoided by a very modest investment in training. Whilst most training companies rely on their freight forwarders to make declarations on their behalf, it is still the responsibility of the exporter or the importer to get it right. There is one example of a firm who had to pay back taxes and duties of over £200,000 because they did not know how to check the information that was being declared wrongly on their behalf. They promptly ensured their staff received the necessary training.
Courses are delivered through Chambers of Commerce around the UK who use well experienced and accredited trainers and established training companies. They cover a very wide range of subjects and are delivered as published or can be specially written to meet the requirements of individual businesses and delivered in house.
Some of the content in Tate's Export and Import Publications is covered in much greater detail on these courses as well as a wealth of other information and examples. Courses are shown under a range of headings.
Country Specific

These courses look in specific countries or regions and examine the different cultural practices and ways of doing business. This includes economic and political issues, trade agreements, logistics and any legal pitfalls.
Export

The range of courses under this heading take you from a very basic introductory overview for new staff or exporters, lead you through the maze of documents and regulations, costings and quotations and provide an overview of methods of payment.
Import

These courses look at how to source products from different countries, how to negotiate the purchasing and show you how to ensure that your suppliers comply with the UK and EU documentary regulations to enable you to import the goods without problems.
Dangerous Goods

Hazardous cargoes include a clearly defined range of substances. The rules covering the packaging, movement and documentation of the hazardous goods are dependent upon the substance and category under which it falls. These courses lead you through the methods used to ensure compliance with international laws.
Sales and Marketing

Finding markets and having found them choosing the right route to enter the market is a complex matter. There are laws of the local countries and cultural issues to consider. The choice of agents and distributors can be difficult. These courses cover all these issues and many more besides.
Letters of Credit and Getting paid

The ultimate objective. The reason we do business. However getting paid from overseas can be fraught with difficulty and even cost. These courses remove the mystique and show how, with practical examples, you can ensure prompt and trouble free payment most of the time.
International Trade

Many exporters also import. Many importers also export. There are many areas that are common to both. These unique courses examine the issues form both sides and show you how you can improve your communications and understanding of the whole process. The result is greater efficiency and profits.
